Gary J. Fehr
Consultant

Gary Fehr has spent over 40 years in the metals industry. Starting as an industrial engineer at Ryerson, Inc. in Chicago in 1969, Gary was promoted through safety and training, organizational development and merchandising management positions until he became General Manager of Materials Management where he oversaw $800M in purchases and 30,000 SKU's for Ryerson plants across the United States. Gary then took over as General Manager, Procurement where he was responsible for developing the procurement strategy that would lead to the domestic purchasing of over 425,000 tons and the offshore purchasing of 200,000 tons of metals annually.

During Gary's career, he has led negotiations and implemented strategic sourcing agreements with key domestic and international suppliers for annual buys that exceeded 2M tons of metals. He also assisted Marketing in developing contractual relationships among customers, suppliers and the company on a regular basis.

In 2004, after retiring from Ryerson, Gary joined Magellan Corporation as Vice President, Procurement and Logistics. There he identified and qualified domestic and international suppliers, developed Supply Agreements and managed the supplier relationships. After five years Gary decided to cut back on his daily activities and became the company's Director of Marketing on a part-time basis until he retired and relocated from Chicago.

Gary graduated from Loyola University with a degree in industrial engineering and later earned his Master's in Management from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg School of Management, where he graduated with honors. Today Gary and his wife live in Nevada where he works as a consultant to businesses in need of materials management strategy development and implementation.
